How does porta potty rental work?
You tell us where, when and for how long you need portable toilets, plus how many people will use them. We pass the request to an independent sanitation provider in our network who delivers the units, services them on a set schedule (pumping, cleaning, restocking) and removes them when your job or event ends. Unit types, availability and terms vary by provider and location.
What you are actually renting
A porta potty rental is not just a plastic box dropped on the ground. You are renting the unit, delivery and placement, a service schedule, consumables like toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and final pickup with disposal of the waste at a permitted treatment facility. The servicing is the part people underestimate. A unit that is never pumped becomes unusable well before the tank is technically full.
Haul & Hygiene is a coordination network, not a sanitation company. The provider that shows up is an independent local operator who owns the trucks and units. Our job is to get your request to the right one with the details they need to quote it accurately.
Comparing the main portable restroom types
Most requests fall into five categories. The table below is a general comparison; exact features, dimensions and options vary by provider and manufacturer, so confirm specifics with your provider before you book.
| Factor | Standard | ADA Accessible | Construction | Event (Deluxe / Flushable) | Luxury Restroom Trailer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ideal use | General short-term needs, small gatherings, home projects | Any site or event where accessible facilities are required or expected | Active jobsites, crews on site daily | Festivals, parties, fundraisers, corporate events | Weddings, upscale events, VIP areas, extended facility outages |
| Accessibility | Not accessible; step-up entry on many models | Designed for wheelchair users: ground-level entry, wide door, interior turning space, grab bars | Not accessible unless an ADA unit is added | Not accessible unless ADA units are added | Usually steps to enter; some trailers offer an accessible stall or ramp, confirm first |
| Typical features | Toilet, holding tank, urinal, vent, paper | Larger footprint, handrails, low seat, accessible door hardware | Durable shell, often a lifting hook for crane placement on high-rise work | Sink or hand sanitizer, mirror, sometimes a flushing toilet | Flushing toilets, running water sinks, lighting, climate control, finished interiors |
| Servicing | Pump, clean, restock on schedule | Same as standard, with attention to clear access path | Often weekly; more often for large crews | Before, during and after the event depending on usage | Fresh water fill and waste pumping; often an attendant at large events |
| Placement | Firm, level ground reachable by a service truck | Firm, level, accessible route to the door | Near work areas, away from traffic and grading | Grouped in banks near activity, lighting at night | Level pad, room for a towed trailer, usually a power source |
| Event suitability | Fine for casual and short events | Needed alongside other units at public events | Not designed for guest-facing use | Built for it | Best for guest experience |
| Construction suitability | Works for small residential jobs | Should be included where workers or visitors need one | Built for it | Rarely needed | Used on some long commercial projects as a crew facility |
| Rental duration | Day, weekend, weekly, monthly | Day through long-term | Usually monthly, project length | One day to several days | One day to several weeks or more |
| Pricing factors | Unit count, duration, service frequency, delivery distance | Same, plus larger unit footprint | Duration, crew size, service frequency, special placement | Guest count, hours, servicing during event, delivery timing | Trailer size, stalls, attendant, power and water needs, distance |
How to choose the right unit
Start with who will use it and for how long. A framing crew of eight on a residential job needs a durable construction unit serviced weekly. A backyard graduation party for 75 guests over five hours may be fine with two standard or deluxe units plus a hand washing station. A formal wedding where guests are dressed up will usually be happier with a restroom trailer.
Then layer in requirements you cannot skip. Public events and many jobsites need at least one accessible unit. Food service usually means you need hand washing, not just sanitizer. If there is no level spot a truck can reach, tell the provider up front, because it changes which units they can place.
- Count users and hours, not just headcount.
- Add accessible units wherever the public or employees with disabilities may use them.
- Plan hand washing for any event serving food.
- Confirm a service truck can reach the units for pumping.
Servicing, the part that makes or breaks a rental
Every portable toilet has a finite holding tank. Service visits reset it: the technician pumps the waste, scrubs and sanitizes surfaces, refills deodorizer and restocks paper and sanitizer. On construction sites, weekly service is the norm. At events, units are typically serviced before gates open and, for longer or busier events, during the event as well. Our maintenance guide covers schedules in more detail.
What affects the cost
We do not publish prices because they vary widely by market and provider. What moves a quote is predictable, though: the type and number of units, how long you keep them, how often they are serviced, how far the provider drives, the delivery window, and extras like hand washing stations, lifting hooks or attendants. See porta potty prices for a full breakdown of factors.
Planning quantities and ordering
Undersizing is the most common mistake we see. For events, estimate based on guests and duration, then adjust for alcohol and food. For jobsites, OSHA sets minimum ratios by crew size. Our quantity guide walks through both, and how it works explains the request-to-pickup process.

Porta Potty Rental FAQs
Who actually delivers the portable toilets?
An independent sanitation provider in our network. They own the units and trucks, handle servicing and pickup, and set their own terms. We coordinate the request so you do not have to call around.
How far ahead should I book?
For a routine jobsite unit, a few days is often enough. For events, especially on spring and summer weekends, book several weeks out, and earlier still for restroom trailers, which are in shorter supply.
Do I need to be there for delivery?
Usually not, as long as the placement spot is clearly marked, accessible and free of vehicles or obstacles. Share a site map or photo when you request a quote.
Can I mix unit types on one order?
Yes. A common setup is several standard or deluxe units, one or more ADA units and a hand washing station. Most providers handle mixed orders routinely.
Do I need a permit for a porta potty?
On private property usually not, but placing units on a street, sidewalk or public park often requires a permit. Rules vary by city, so check locally. Our permit guide covers the basics.
